According to recent research, we've lost over 60% of our insect population in the UK in the last twenty years. Worse still, it’s predicted that within the century we could lose all insects unless we change our farming, business and buying practices.

HOW TO BEE A HERO
- Plant bee-friendly plants like heather and daisies and red clover on balconies, terraces and in gardens.
- Leave sections of the garden wild and let the grass grow long to give bees a place to shelter.
- Create a bee hotel for your garden's bee population.
- Leave a small dish with pebbles and shallow water out - this can be a lifesaver for a thirsty bee.
- Don't use pesticides as they are extremely harmful, not only to bees, but also to butterflies and other insects, all of which are needed for a thriving ecosystem.
Last but not least, support businesses that strive to care for the Foggy Bummer (old Scots for bee) population and their wellbeing. This may be the beauty sector, the food industry or your local beekeeper!
